About the event
KaPow! "a cry out of awesomeness, satisfaction or accomplishment".
KaPow is a night that centres its attention and focus on the DJ by providing artists an extended 3 hour set in an intimate space, allowing both the DJ and audience to engage in those KaPow moments.
For KaPow's June installment we are proud to present the frontman and curator of the renowned Natural Selection records, DJ and producer, CHARLES-EDDY.
CHARLES-EDDY exemplifies the essence of music, with his zeal and finesse, and ability to get the crowd on their feet, no matter when or where his ability to create an endless, driving synergy to every dance floor that he captivates.
Most young boys are raised with toys and diggers; Charles-Eddy had trumpets and drums; all thanks to his father’s appreciation and love for music, that he passed onto this talented young musician.
Hailing from Paris, he can still recall the sounds of Ray Charles, Nina Simone and Toto, ever-present throughout his youth, giving him an early ear and appreciation for music.
In 1999 Charles-Eddy purchased his first set of MK2 turntables and began spinning hip-hop and house. With his determination and passion for music, he landed his first residency a mere year later at the era-defining Parisian nightclub: Bains Douches. This illustrious club has seen the likes of Prince, Depeche Mode and David Guetta all perform within its walls.
Shortly after he became part of the Sunlight Program on Radio FG, the best Parisian electronic music radio station at the time, throwing down a range of Deep and Afro House.
With his charming demeanour and ability to create an endless, driving synergy to every dance floor that he captivates, Mr Pitiful quickly made a name for himself in Paris. He regularly supported and teamed up with the likes of Kitsuné, Llorca, DJ Deep, Paco, Trouble Men, DJ Vas, Mandel Turner and DJ Medhi; regularly spinning jazz groove, hip-hop and house. It was here that he continued to hone his skills and expand his repertoire, with a perplexing ability to mix anything from rock ‘n’ roll to electro; soul to house; acid jazz to minimal tec. Mr Pitiful exemplifies the essence of music, with his zeal and finesse, and ability to get the crowd on their feet¬—no matter when or where.
With his skills continually evolving, he frequented the clubs of Queen, Rex Club, Elysee Montmartre, Bataclan, Triptyque and Le Bus Palladium, bringing musical flair to some of the finest clubs in Paris. In 2007 he decided to branch out, playing in New York, Montreal and Switzerland, then doing a final shift to Australia, where he has been since 2008.
Mix, sample, juggle, scratch, cut, produce; Charles-Eddy can do it all, and was quick to establish himself in Melbourne, both in the club and bush doof scene’s. Since making the shift he has performed at 161, Revolver, Toff In Town, Railway Hotel, My Aeon, Boney, with ongoing residencies at Section 8 and Glamorama. He has played at Strawberry Fields since its inaugural year in 2008, Rainbow Serpent 20 years anniversary, Maitreya, Yemaya and countless renegades at Festival.
He also collaborates with Johan Elgstrom to form The Street Player, Max Vegas to become Linkosono, and also the live band, Sleazy Roots.
In Australia he has supported both international and local artists including: Politics Of Dancing, H.O.S.H, No Regular Play, Huxley, Mano Le Tough, San Soda, Dj Janette, Wax'O Paradiso, Otologic and many more.
For the past 5 years he has been the curator and face of one of Melbourne's finest record stores, Natural Selection. Not only does he share his impeccable sound to dancefloors across the country and locations throhgout the world, his influence continues further into your own personal collections with the wide variety of outstanding music and audio equipment available instore and online. Natural Selection is truely an asset to the Melbourne music scene, as is Charles-Eddy.
